outh Side singer-actress Jennifer Hudson and her fiance, lawyer-turned-professional-wrestler David Otunga, have split after 10 years together, People magazine reports.
Hudson’s representative told People that Hudson requested and received a protective order against Otunga. That paperwork was filed Thursday in Cook County court. A court date has been set for Dec. 7.
Attempts to reach attorneys for Hudson and Otunga were unsuccessful. Otunga’s attorney issued a statement to People: “Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”
Otunga, 37, and Hudson, 36, got engaged in September 2008 after dating for less than a year. They welcomed their son David Otunga Jr. in August 2009.
Hudson’s fiance was a mainstay in the courtroom during the trial of William Balfour, who was convicted in 2012 of killing Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew on the South Side in 2008.
Hudson rose to fame after competing on Season 3 of “American Idol.” She won an Academy Award in 2007 for her supporting role in “Dreamgirls.” She is one of four celebrities coaching singers this season on “The Voice.”
